Background
- Up to 10% of the European population suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Europe, most of them do not know they have it and an increasing number die from the disease – yet the condition is generally unknown.
- COPD is a major chronic, debilitating and costly respiratory disease that, if not addressed properly, will be the 3rd cause of death worldwide by 2030, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
- However, until now, COPD has not gained sufficient attention from European policy makers.
This event is hosted by Glenis Willmott MEP (S&D, UK) and organised by the European COPD Coalition (ECC) with the support of the European Public Health Alliance.
