Joint Public Health Statement on Gaza

A united voice for health and humanity

In the face of an unprecedented public health catastrophe in Gaza, three leading European and international public health organisations –  the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), the European Public Health Association (EUPHA), and the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) –  have come together to issue a joint public statement.

The statement recognises the overwhelming evidence of systematic destruction in Gaza, widely characterised as meeting the threshold for genocide, and its devastating consequences for the health and wellbeing of the entire population. It condemns the systematic targeting of civilians, health workers, and infrastructure, and calls for:

  • An immediate and lasting ceasefire
  • Full protection of health systems, services and workers
  • Unrestricted humanitarian access
  • International accountability for violations of international law
  • Direct support for displaced health professionals, researchers and students
  • Restoration of public health systems and social determinants of health

This is not a political gesture, it is a public health imperative.

Health requires peace. Silence is not neutrality.
