EPHA has submitted a response to the Call for Evidence and the Public Consultation on the EU Civil Society Strategy.
Civil society organisations are vital to Europe’s democracy, social cohesion, and resilience. Health CSOs in particular play an irreplaceable role in representing patients and professionals, providing independent expertise, and holding decision-makers accountable for health equity and the public good.
To maximise the impact of the upcoming EU Civil Society Strategy, EPHA is urging the European Commission to ensure:
- Clear, predictable, and sustainable funding for civil society across EU policy areas;
- Real participation in EU decision-making — beyond consultation, and in full respect of Article 11 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union;
- Robust safeguards for civic actors, including effective implementation of the Anti-SLAPP Directive to protect against legal threats aimed at silencing voices.
