While the European Commission finalises its Communication on the future of Justice and Home Affairs policies, a number of migrants’ rights and children’s rights organisations, have written to the European Commission’s President Barroso to request a more coherent and rights-based policy approach towards migrant children. Specifically, the letter asks that future Home Affairs policy addresses existing shortcomings in meeting the EU’s legal obligations towards migrant children, and that children’s well-being becomes a strategic and actionable priority for EU Home Affairs policy in the coming years.
The letter to Mr. José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission (cc 8 DG Commissioners) was signed by Defense des Enfants DEI Belgique, Eurochild, EPHA, SOS Children’s Villages International, World Vision, Terees des Hommes International Federation, Save the Children, IFM-SEI, PICUM and FEANTSA.
