The Multiannual Financial Framework is among the largest of the many issues that will be on the EU’s legislative agenda during the Danish presidency. The Financial Framework lays out the overarching principles for the EU’s long-term budget. In total, more than 80 legislative proposals will have to be negotiated in parallel, all of which should be concluded before the end of 2012. Furthermore, there will be negotiations on a reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and the EU’s fishery policy.
2012 will also be the 20 year anniversary of the launch of the Internal Market, which is high on the EU agenda. But the Internal Market has to be reformed and kept up to date, and this task will be on the agenda during the Danish presidency. In this process, environment and consumer protection will also be taken into consideration. A further focus area will be the digital agenda in order to lay the foundation for future growth and new opportunities.
In the field of health the Danish Presidency has establsih six prioties.
– 1 Action Programme in the Field of Health
In 2011, the European Commission presented its proposal for a new Framework Programme in the field of Health called Health For Growth. The Danish Presidency plans to debate the proposal with Member States during its presidency.
– 2 The EU’s Health Strategy
In 2013, the current EU Health Strategy will come to an end. As the health programme expires in 2013, the future of the strategy and the programme will be on the agenda during the Danish Presidency of the Council.
– 3 Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
The Danish Presidency aims to build on the results of previous presidencies, with a focus on promoting a more rational use of antibiotics and on strengthening and improving the surveillance of the use of and resistance to antibiotics. They will also follow up on theCommission’s strategy on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
– 4 Amendment of the Directive on Tobacco
The European Commission plans to release a proposal to revise the 2001 Tobacco Product Directive. .

– 5 Amendment of the Transparency Directive
When the European Commission publishes its revised proposal, this will be on the agenda of the Danish Presidency.
